THE OPPORTUNITY
Bar J Septic Services is a growing, family-owned company in Amarillo, Texas. We are building a professional organization where capable people can do excellent work, grow into greater responsibility, and build a meaningful career.
We need a hands-on leader to take responsibility for Business Operations: financial information, administrative work, business systems, and leadership follow-through. This person will handle important work today while building the team and processes needed to reduce routine dependence on the company owners.
Initial priorities are trustworthy financial reporting, dependable administrative workflows, and consistent completion of leadership commitments.
Septic-industry experience is not required. Proven business judgment, initiative, and the ability to learn quickly are essential.
WHAT YOU LEAD
Financial information and controls
Manage the internal workflow that supports accurate financial statements, job costs, budgets, and cash-flow forecasts. Ensure records and inputs are complete, coordinate corrections with the outside accounting firm that prepares monthly financials, and help leadership understand material variances and risks.
Administrative execution
Oversee billing, collections, accounts payable, payroll administration, banking coordination, and insurance administration. Maintain dependable employee, customer, vendor, contract, compliance, and company records. Protect confidential information and involve qualified advisers when specialized expertise is needed.
People and outside providers
Lead administrative, customer-service, bookkeeping, and business-support personnel. Establish clear responsibilities, performance expectations, decision authority, and backup coverage. Coordinate outside providers and hold them accountable for agreed work.
Systems and processes
Improve how ServiceTitan, QuickBooks, and reporting tools work together. Resolve duplicate entry, conflicting records, recurring errors, and unclear handoffs. Document practical processes that employees can understand and consistently follow.
Leadership coordination
Develop and maintain the company scorecard and track priorities, issues, decisions, responsible parties, and deadlines. Facilitate Core Leadership Team meetings as authorized by the company owners. Follow up on commitments across the leadership team, including those made by the company owners, verify completion, and bring unresolved barriers forward for a decision.
This role leads Business Operations and coordinates with the other core leaders, each of whom remains accountable for their function. The company owners resolve conflicts that exceed the team’s authority.
HOW YOU LEAD AND DECIDE
Within established authority, gather the facts, assess the risk, decide, communicate clearly, and finish the work. When an issue requires the company owners’ involvement, bring the relevant facts, available options, and a recommendation.
Expect to do substantive work personally while developing the people and systems around you. Set clear expectations, address missed commitments directly, and help others become more capable.
The right person is a quietly driven operator and natural system builder who is comfortable working behind the scenes. They create order from disorder, work well with numbers, remain calm under pressure, learn quickly, and follow important work through to completion.
EXPERIENCE AND CAPABILITIES
A strong candidate will bring:
- Meaningful experience leading people and taking responsibility for significant work in operations, finance, administration, accounting, or organizational systems.
- A demonstrated ability to create order, solve problems, and follow work through to completion without step-by-step direction.
- Practical understanding of financial statements, budgeting, cash flow, job costs, and internal controls.
- Confidence with business technology and reporting tools, including experience with ServiceTitan and QuickBooks or the ability to become proficient quickly.
- Strong communication, discretion, organization, and attention to detail.
A related degree is helpful. Demonstrated experience and capability matter more.
THE BAR J STANDARD
Character comes before competence, but this role requires both. Our Five Foundations are integrity, resilience, curiosity, growth identity, and craftsmanship. We expect people to tell the truth, keep commitments, remain steady through difficulty, ask questions, use feedback and deliberate effort to grow, and take pride in doing work well.
Bar J will provide company context and industry knowledge. The foundational financial, business, and leadership competence must already be present.
Leadership here is service through responsibility. Meaningful authority comes with an obligation to strengthen the company, support its people, and produce dependable results. Greater authority means greater responsibility, not greater status.
For the right person, this is an opportunity to apply proven capability, take on meaningful responsibility, and help build the operational foundation Bar J needs to grow into a well-run $10 million company designed to last. If Bar J succeeds but our people do not, we have missed the point.
